Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
