Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session

Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.

Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.

Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.

The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.

The veteran ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.

Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
